Bevis Marks Synagogue

London

About this historic venue

We don’t have many places of worship on our venues page, but had to make an exception for this historic jewel in the crown of Anglo-Jewry. Officially the ‘Kahal Kadosh Sha’ar ha-Shamayim’, meaning the ‘Holy Gate of Heaven Congregation, is it the oldest and most beautiful synagogue in the UK, hidden away in the buzzing glass-and-concrete metropolis of the City of London.

Now a Grade 1 Listed Building, it was built in 1701 and is the only synagogue in Europe which has held regular services for 300 years; indeed the history and tradition of this very special place is immediately apparent to all who visit. We love the unique atmosphere, the mahogany, the gold, the history and the unique traditions of Bevis Marks.
